Project story · 2021

Ready for school

A uniform, supplies, and the chance to return.

The need

The death of a parent can leave a family without the income needed to keep children in school. This project supported children who had lost fathers in Everest porter work or conflict. It began with 74 identified students and expanded to 110 as additional needs became known.

What the record tells us

Uniforms were measured and sewn locally in Chheskam. COVID disruptions delayed distribution until June 2021. The published updates describe children receiving uniforms and materials as schools reopened.

Why it matters

When a child has the clothing and materials needed for school, a practical obstacle to learning becomes smaller. These projects are made possible by donors and the local people who put that support into action.
