Helping children in Nepal’s remote Himalayan communities

Education
is Freedom.

Education gives children in Nepal’s Himalayas a path out of profound poverty. Without support, children can drop out of school and face dangerous work carrying heavy loads, or worse. Warm clothes, shoes and school supplies help keep that path open. Your support can help change the course of a child’s life.

Why we’re here

The clothes give them
a chance.

Even in the best circumstances, the walk to school can be long and dangerous across rugged mountain terrain. Children then sit in classrooms without heat. For families who cannot afford warm clothes or shoes, winter can put education out of reach.

The stakes extend far beyond a cold school day. We have seen children leave school to earn money carrying heavy loads in the mountains. Without support, they can face heavy hauling, or worse. Staying in education gives them a chance to develop skills, pursue other livelihoods and build a different future. NEEF works with Dilip Singh Kulung, Everest Mera Foundation and local schools to help keep that possibility within reach.

The families behind Everest tourism

Hard work. Strong communities.
Very limited means.

Life in these mountain communities involves farming, long walks and demanding physical work. Families grow much of what they eat. Their resourcefulness and strength do not remove the severe financial hardship they face.

Seasonal porter work in the Everest region is one way families earn money. Carrying heavy loads at high altitude brings serious risks, including fatal altitude illness and accidents. Some children NEEF supports have lost one or both parents, adding bereavement and lost income to existing poverty.

NEEF works with Dilip Singh Kulung and local schools to understand each community’s needs. Warm clothing, footwear, uniforms and classroom supplies are practical ways to help children continue their education.

Your donation helps children stay in school when poverty threatens to push them out. The clothing is practical. The purpose is lasting: a chance to move beyond poverty through education.
